With almost 7km of (rarely busy) gently sloping, soft sandy beaches and a wide range of high quality golf courses within 30 minutes in both Spain and Portugal, its easy to see why Isla Canela really is the fastest growing Spanish holiday destination.
Completed in 2006, this luxurious 2 bedroom apartment looks directly onto the 8th fairway of the Isla Canela golf course. The spacious apartment is on the first floor with a large front sun terrace that overlooks the golf course and a balcony at the rear that overlooks the pool area. The apartment has two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a large lounge with dining area and a good size kitchen also with dining area. There is a double sofa bed in the lounge increasing the sleeping capacity to 6.
The gated complex encloses both an adult pool and separate childrens pool with play area, overlooked by the rear balcony of the apartment. Private, allocated parking spaces are also within the gated complex. The apartment is within walking distance of the 5 star Isla Canela Golf Hotel and driving range. The Hotel has its own pool, bar, restaurant, gym and Internet access. Golf facilities are located within the hotel. There is a separate bar and restaurant located close to the first tee, with its own pool and bowling green. Tennis courts are within 100 metres of the apartment. A Water Park and Karting circuit are only a short drive away in Cartaya.
There are 8 high quality golf courses within 30 minutes drive of Isla Canela. Compared to the western Algarve and the Costa del Sol, Costa de la Luz – Huelva and the Eastern Algarve are as yet ‘undiscovered’. Green fees are lower (and we can arrange further discounts on your behalf), the courses are less crowded and less busy making it much easier to get a start time that you want and to be able to get round in reasonable time without delays.
The course at Isla Canela is set on the edge of the ‘marismas’, the salt-water marshes that form much of the terrain of Isla Canela and which have the benefit of protected status as natural parks. Like the ‘marismas’, the course at Isla Canela is flat and open and makes for easy walking – but do not take it lightly! When he designed the course in 1993, Juan Catarineü incorporated the ponds and gullies that serve as the drainage system of the ‘marismas’ to provide natural hazards that always seem to be just where you don’t want them. The Isla Canela course is not particularly long but it rewards straight play as any shots off-line are penalised by the array of eucalyptus and palms that characterise the scenery. Water comes into play on no fewer than 10 holes.

The beach at Isla Canela is endless! Well almost. The Atlantic side of Isla Canela has nearly 7 kms of 60m beach, which is never busy. There is a range of beachside bars and restaurants along the sea front.
But Isla Canela is not the only place in the area with excellent beaches. From Isla Cristina to Punta Umbria excellent beaches abound, many with pine trees and sand dunes. And it doesnt stop at the border. They carry on into Portugal to Tavira and beyond.
The Isla Canela Marina is a modern fully equipped leisure marina, opened in April 2000. On the quayside along the harbour there are shops, bars and restaurants catering to residents and mariners alike. Across the bay from the marina stands the small fishing village of Punta del Moral. From here the fishing boats depart every evening and return in the morning laden with their catch. This rustic village is home to quite a few fish restaurants where you may enjoy delicious (and usually very inexpensive) meals prepared from the freshest ingredients. Boat trips, sailing, canoeing and jet-ski excursions are available at the marina.
Isla Canela is only 2km from the historic border town of Ayamonte, on the banks of the Guadiana estuary, the last stop before Portugal on the Spanish Algarve. Ayamontes cobbled streets are crammed with historical and architectural treasures, its quaint squares lined with palm trees and flowers. Ayamonte is a thriving, bustling market town with a local market every Saturday. It boasts a wide range of traditional pavement cafes, Spanish bars and Tapas bars, as well as Portugese and Italian restaurants.
How to Get There
Isla Canela is served by three airports, all used by low-cost airlines. Faro is the closest airport (45 mins) and is covered by most budget airlines. Seville (1hr 30mins) and Jerez (2 hours) are serviced by Ryanair. Whilst not essential, a car is recommended.
