Sant Feliu de GuixolsSant Feliu de Guixols has a beautiful sandy town beach backed by a glorious tree lined avenue leading from the rocky headland to the south all the way to the excellent marina.
The traffic free Rambla Vidal is a great place to shop, eat and people watch. The old town has many narrow and interesting little streets to explore, with delightful places to tarry a while over a cooling drink or strong coffee.
Sant Feliu de Guixols is one hour from Barcelona by car. The Airport and a Rail Station in Girona are approximately 30 minutes drive.
Leisure & recreationSant Feliu de Guixols with its privileged seaside location and fresh sea air, is a perfect place of outdoor lovers who can enjoy a spot of walking, running or cycling; there are some excellent routes for ramblers. Plus there are riding stables nearby catering for all levels of equestrian expertise.
There are great facilities for those who wish to partake in water sports and fishermen will delight in the rich waters to be found off the many headlands in the area.
Other sports locally available include athletics, several body shaping gyms, tennis, go-karts and paddle.
Cultural attractionsSant Feliu de Guixols has an ancient Monastery dating back to the medieval era.
BeachesThe main town beach offers great facilities and is connected to the marina. The sand is fine and golden. Parking is available under the trees in the avenues behind it.
Along the coast in either direction are a multitude of small coves and longer bays with fine sand and many services. You can spend your entire holiday on a different beach every day.
GolfThere are a number of excellent and challenging courses that welcome visiting golfers within one hours drive of the resort. Check with local clubs if handicap certificate is required, a rule that is often wavered if you ask nicely.
NightlifeThe nightlife of Sant Feliu de Guixols is quite tame, although there are several bars, which have music and stay open until the early hours. Pop over the headland to S'Agaró and visit the Hit-Box Bar where you can listen to popular music, and dance the night away.
Eating outThere are many cafes, bars and restaurants in and around town, where you can experience local Catalonian cuisine. From great value ‘Menu del Dia’, where local workman enjoy a hearty meal of the day, to quite sublime and sophisticated dining suited to the elegant palate of the visiting glitterati from Barcelona.
CuisineThe gastronomy of Catalonia is rich and varied. Principally it is the typical Mediterranean diet of fish and seafood with fresh vegetables, olives and olive oil rice and pasta.
We recommend that visitors try some traditional Catalan dishes whilst on holiday, especially delicious are
Escudella I Carn D'olla, vegetable broth with pork, veal and chicken. Pa Amb Tomàquet,
simply rustic bread, can be toasted, rubbed with tomato pulp and dressed with oil and salt; these delcious breakfast can also be served with ham, sausage or tortilla.
Coca is a very thin dough baked with onions, peppers and other vegetables served with and meats, or fish (especially sardines).
ClimateSant Feliu de Guixols is blessed by fine weather. In the summertime it is rare to see anything other than a cloudless blue sky. The hottest days are made bearable by the gentle breeze which blows off the sea during the afternoon. Autumn and Spring weather is fine too, with occasionally rainy days watering this garden of Eden. In the winter, a fresh bracing air can give way to warm days of over 20C.
